Welcome to SportsWithJai07's CricNews.
It's wonderful to hear that everything is getting back on track in the sports industry with Football already getting a kick start after the pandemic. But a huge crowd must be wondering what about cricket? well, let's discuss this in detail in this blog.
India-
On May 17th 2020 the Board of Control for Cricket(BCCI) in India issued a statement which addressed the situation regarding COVID-19 and stated that all the Series and Tournaments will be suspended until May 31st as the Indian Government had put restrictions on air travel and movement. They started a skill-based training camp for their contracted players which would help the players to stay fit even in lockdown.
The lockdown kept extending and so did the virus. On 12th June Board of Control for Cricket(BCCI) announced that Team India will not be travelling to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe due to the threat of COVID-19. They were supposed to play 3 T20I's and 3 ODI's in Sri Lanka starting on 24th June and 3 ODI's in Zimbabwe starting on 22nd August. BCCI stated that they will be considering every rule and decision taken by The Indian Government and will follow the same.
No one has received any confirmation about Indian Premier League which was set to start on 29th March 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic. Reports suggest it will take place sometime in the month of September but nothing is crystal clear.
England & Wales-
Great news over here! England Cricket Team has started their training with 30 members allowed in a bio-secure environment ahead of the Test Series against West Indies. The players are supposed to wear masks and maintain social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus. Each member will be going through a routine check-up before entering the training facility. The first Test Series will start on 8th July against West Indies and second will be against Pakistan starting on 30th July. The players will not be allowed to go outside the training facility until and unless it's an emergency. ECB's director Ashley Giles warned the players of the team stating " Anyone who thinks this is going to be a holiday camp is going to be seriously mistaken".
ICC Men's T20 World Cup-
International Cricket Council(ICC) will hold a meeting tomorrow and will decide if they should go ahead with starting the T20 World Cup in October which will be played in Australia. ICC was not a to decide and come to a conclusion in the last three meetings regarding the situation but will make the final call tomorrow.
