Blog 26: Romeo Beckham makes professional football debut at 19

Romeo Beckham, the former England captain David Beckham's son, made his professional football debut at 19. Following in his father's footsteps, Romeo was picked by the American third-tier club Fort Lauderdale team for their match against South Georgia Tormenta. Fort Lauderdale is the sister club of Inter Miami CF, co-owned by David Beckham and competing in League One of the United Soccer League.

How did he perform?

David Beckham, during his career, mastered his position on the right-wing while players for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. Romeo also started on the right-wing against Tormenta. The teenager played for 79 minutes before the substitution took place. The 19-year-old managed just 19 touches while his best play was in the 57th minute when he set up his teammate Harvey Neville, son of Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville, with an inch-perfect cross headed away from the post.

"Blessed to have made my pro debut, full focus on to the next match." Romeo conveyed this through a post on Instagram with a photo of himself in the No.11 jersey.

It's not fair to judge him after just one game. He was limited to 19 touches and will be hoping for better performances in the upcoming matches. David Beckham and Phil Neville were teammates at Old Trafford and will be hoping for a great career for their sons, who are keen footballers.
